Taiwan Police Uses W-DETECTIVE to Crackdown Cyber Fraud

The Network Auction Fraud transformed into a new type of cyber crime by wireless technology several years ago, and it has not been easy to crack downed by the CID police until the Kaohsiung Police Bureau, for the first time in Taiwanese Police Authority’s history, adopted a brand new cutting-edge technique from Decision Group.

The suspect, who with last name called Chen lived in Kaohsiung, used wireless Internet access to avoid the police from tracing and investigating him. He pretended a real cyber seller and made fraudulent eannouncement saying that he got a special channel to purchase gift vouchers from different famous department store like SOGO and Far Eastern Department Stores in Taiwan with a 14% discount off. It is impossible for the ordinary consumers to buy those gift vouchers with a discount ranging from 1% to a maximal of 3% unless they buy it by the amount of millions NT dollars and above. With a price difference more than 11 percent, it did attract some consumers to buy from Chen through Internet. At the beginning, Chen sold limited amount of gift vouchers to cyber users really with a 14% discount as he pronounced, in order to win the trust even though he might lose money. However, after those greedy buyers trusted him and remitted substantial amount of cash money in order to buy more vouchers, he took the cash and disappeared. Within half year of time, he deceived almost 1,000 cyber buyers with total fraudulent fund exceed 7 million NT dollars.

The reason why suspect Chen might succeed to deceive such larger amount of money from those people over and over again is mainly because Chen hided himself behind the cyber curtain of Internet with high ranking appraisal accounts, and, most importantly, he used wireless access to Internet, from which it is very difficult for CID to trace him.

This 30-year-old suspect Chen is one of the typical cyber fraud criminals by the advantage of wireless auction environment on Internet. Chen presumed that wireless access would hide himself from been trapped, but he never imagined that a cutting edge weapon of tracing device called “W¬-Detective System” innovated and commercialized by Decision Group.

“We hope Decision Group can provide police an effective powerful weapon to fight against cyber crimes with advanced technology.” Casper Chang said, “As technology is progressing so fast, police should also keep pace with this development. Decision Group will keep on providing powerful high tech weapon for police all over the world against cyber crimes.”
